the farm on the island…

May 3, 2012

Today, I woke up wishing I was on the island…a couple years ago I had the opportunity to photograph a birthday weekend on a private island.  The island belongs to a kind family who have owned it since the 1700’s. My photography life is not nearly this glamorous usually, I promise  you…but the island was special, it held something I can’t quite explain and I will always remember. …and the friendships and love that weekend felt about as old as the land, it was lovely.

Some of my favorite residents were the animals on the farm, most were free to roam and I befriended the little guy above, and a few others.

Are you wishing to be somewhere else today? or fine right where you are?

Somewhere else. For sure. I wish it every day. Somewhere else. That farm and the animals look so lovely, all the animals are so cute. I love your photos.

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we all had access to an island like this, just to get away from everything for a couple of days? I know I would. A place to walk around and see and smell nature. Find a nice cozy spot and sit and read or just be quiet for awhile. A place where you could leave your day to day troubles and worries and just be… Wouldn’t life be grand!

Somewhere else…not sure where…but oooooh I’d like to be a part of something…or a part of nothing. Connected totally or completely disconnected. I find that when i have a foot in both worlds at once, I am not totally me…or, I have a hard time being me. I end up being what otheres want me to be, doing what others want from me, and end up with nothing in the end. I guess the island looks like the perfect mix…removed from the crazy life we live, but connected in all of the right ways.

Love the pictures. If I were somewhere else today, I’m not sure I’d be any more content. The grass is always greener…

  6. I mostly don’t wish to be anywhere but where I already am. However! I too just spent four wonderful days on an island. Antelope Island in Salt Lake. I often think that ‘life is a song’. and the song for this particular place is ‘Give me a home where the buffalo roam and the deer and the antelope play ….. ” because they do! The buffalo (bison) truly roam free in this place. They come right up to your tent or rv. 700 of them in total on the Island. Amazing. No wifi, no phones, no electricity but so so many birds and animals mostly free from predatory harm. A place to find peace and harmony.
