soundtrack of your life…
November 14, 2007
I have constant music in my head, I feel compelled to mark an event with a song. I often pretend that my life is a movie, it’s all so dramatic. The score is almost always playing “Little Women”.This is why I love Ann*, a dear friend whose super power is making the best cd’s. You know those friends that introduce you to all the cool musicians/music and make the perfect mix for the party or moment.
She handed me one just before I was to give a lecture a few weeks ago. I had a hard time concentrating because I was dying to hear it. This cd has been following me around ever since. It inspired me to gather all the music I hold dear in one place. So here goes:
All the music of my life that makes me laugh, cry and dance, sometimes all at the same time…don’t laugh okay ?
With My Own Two Hands by Ben Harper (Jack Johnson/Curious George version)
Let Go by Frou Frou
Kindness by David Wilcox
Seasons of Love from Rent
Heartbeats by Jose Gonzalez
Little Women by David Newman (main score)
Book of Love (rose cousins version- rosepose88) you tube only- thanks jen!
Love is my Religion by Ziggy Marley (acoustic version)
One Voice by The Wailin’ Jennys
Ain’t No Reason by Brett Dennon – thanks ann!
This is just the dreamy CD of course, the sassy one would be much more interesting ….what is the music on the soundtrack of your life? It’s the song you can’t live with out, it always finds it’s way back to you.
Leave a comment telling me your favorites and Lucy will pick one winner to receive a copy of The Soundtrack of Kindnessgirl.
*Ann also happens to be the infamous “Nora’s mother“…she’s even cooler than I knew back then.
p.s. Sandie– you HAVE to do this, this is one of your best superpowers too!

I was thinking the same thing, it’s like some one caught you dancing in your room in front of the mirror. next we should post all the songs we secretly love.

Your list is fantastic … Seasons of love — excellent! I always wanted to be a writer or a musician, but don’t have the talent. Instead I feel best when I’m surrounded by good writing and good music. Isn’t that the best feeling? I keep on hearing more songs I should have put on the cd, maybe there will be a part 2 …

Ooh, I love both your picks (the ones I’m familiar with, anyway — got You Tube/iTunes the rest) and Kelly’s. Mine are pretty similar to Kelly’s, actually, in terms of artists…
Isn’t She Lovely — Stevie Wonder (the year we were born, Pache!)
Ain’t Nothing Like the Real Thing Baby — Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell
Don’t Give Up — Peter Gabriel live version
Sunday Bloody Sunday — U2 especially in concert when the audience shouts “No More War!”
Closer to Fine — Indigo Girls
This Woman’s Work — either Kate Bush OR Maxwell’s unplugged version
Asleep in the Light — Keith Green
Suite: Judy Blue Eyes — Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young (or as Delia calls it, “The Judy Song”)
Sweet Thing — Chaka Khan & Rufus
At Last — Etta James (my wedding’s first dance)
As — Stevie Wonder
Somewhere Over the Rainbow/What a Wonderful World — Iz (Israel Kamakawiwo’ole)
I could go on and on, but the Schmoopette wants more cereal!
Oh, and my blog is sadly not urbanmama.com (that has been taken forever) it’s http://spa.typepad.com/mamas/

Sand- I knew there would be some Stevie in there, and how could I forget Keith Green?….that version of Somewhere Over The Rainbow is Josiah’s favorite. It was on the CD Ann gave us and Josiah asks me to repeat it over and over…..
